Happy Valley Norfolk's Pre-Loved Pop-Up Market

Wow! What a blast our Pre-Loved Pop-Up Market was on Sunday the 23rd March 2025.

With over 25 stalls all set up, the cars started rolling in and a steady stream of sustainable shoppers through the door all day we couldn’t have been happier. It’s such a pleasure to be a part of the secondhand movement that is only going to get bigger as we consumers become more aware of our impact on the planet. The day began with stallholders setting up their treasures, and so the Happy Valley team got a sneak peek at all the wonderful bargains that were on offer! Tea, coffee and cake sales were setting up in The Hay Barn lean to whilst stallholders set up in The Dutch Barn, The Cattleyard Covered Area and The Hay Barn. We even had delicious Hawaiian inspired Poke Bowls by the talented Pokenom Adventures serving in the Cattle Yard Courtyard. The atmosphere was buzzing, the sun was giving us a flash of spring and we waited for the first shoppers to arrive with great anticipation.

11am came and went and shoppers were piling in to see the stalls and their wares, coffee and cake in aid of the Men’s Shed was flying out the door, the Marshall Bar was full and the Happy Valley Team were spying bargains everywhere.

The community spirit was high and we were so blessed to have so many wonderful sellers with us from the locality; from gorgeous future Happy Valley bride Georgina with her vintage and roll end fabrics, yarns and haberdashery, Vintage Designer from Wardys Vintage, Beautiful Summer dresses and accessories from The Vintage Hippy, Heather from local business Kip McGrath selling her gorgeous hand made jewellery, Antiques from Dawns Emporium, Lonestar jack selling vintage clothing, seasonal decor, and pre loved, vintage gems and furniture, Sue Bunting (Going to Grandmas) selling lots of handmade knits, repurposed designs to super stylish mummy Milllie, Harriet, Angela and Lucy Masons incredible vintage and secondhand clothing, we even had Brancaster Vodka join us with a rail of timeless classics from the best designers and not forgetting local Norwich based Designer Pre Loved by Penny there was something for everyone under one eclectic roof! As well as crafts and clothes we were treated to designer children’s clothes at incredible prices, toys and books, antique collectibles, men’s streetwear, vintage handbags, homeware and more.

Whilst we’re so excited about the next pre-loved market, we are also busy planning for The Wilderness Wedding Fair on the 12th October 2025 and we need YOU our pre-loved wonder sellers to help make the event exceptional. Do you have a pre-loved Mother of the Bride outfit that it’s time to part with? Perhaps you have a few bridesmaid dresses (new or vintage) or even a wedding dress that needs a new home? It doesn’t have to be a modern wedding dress. With a growing trend for vintage weddings on the horizon we are keen to showcase all sorts of wedding outfits - from Art Deco to the Swinging Sixties! Thanks to your incredible generosity we raised £368.50 for the King’s Lynn Men’s Shed through the sale of tea, coffee and homemade cakes.

Why Buying Second Hand Matters

In 2018, I bought a little suede-bound book from a charity shop in Southwold. It was entitled, ‘The Longfellow Birthday Book’, published circa 1910 and used (ordinarily) to record the birthdays of your friends and loved ones. This one, unbeknownst to me at the time, was actually used by a midwife, Nurse Seaman, between 1919 - 1931 to record all the births of babies she had delivered throughout her career. After a little research, I went on to speak to relatives of the babies listed in the book, hear stories about them and learn about their lives. It has become one of my most prized possessions.

Buying second-hand then, is not only essential for the health of our planet, but it actually has an enormous impact on our personal lives as well. Let’s explore how shopping sustainably and buying second hand can have a positive effect on our planet and our minds.

How can buying second hand have an impact on the planet?

1. Lowering our carbon footprint. “New Oxfam research reveals that if all UK adults bought half of their next wardrobe second-hand instead of new, it could prevent an estimated 12.5 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions entering the atmosphere.”

2. Reducing waste. The fashion industry alone is responsible for “92 million tonnes of textiles waste every year” according to Earth.org. By shopping second hand we can dramatically reduce that number.

3. Supporting local communities. Many secondhand and charity shops are run by local organisations who are raising money for the community. Your purchases in these types of retail environments will be directly impacting the lives of those supported by the charity.

4. Shifting consumer behaviour. By promotion secondhand shopping as a way of life, we are encouraging others to take a more sustainable approach to buying. This may help to eliminate the buy-use-dispose cycle that is so prevalent in modern society.

We all love to look and feel good, but should it come at the cost of our future?

How can buying second hand have an impact on our personal lives?

1. Probably most obviously, shopping second hand has an enormous impact on our finances! By seeking out high-quality materials such as cotton, cashmere, wool and vintage denim we can add longevity to our wardrobes without worrying about the price tag.

2. A dedication to secondhand shopping allows us to be more mindful of the items we bring into our home. This in turn may inspire us to declutter on a regular basis - keeping our homes (and our minds) clear.

3. Gratitude. Shopping sustainably lets us really think about the things we already own, creating space for that feeling of gratitude that fast fashion just doesn’t have time for.

4. Disengaging from ‘trends’. It’s easy to become swept up in what’s fashionable and lose our sense of self and style. By shopping on the secondhand market we can disengage from what is considered fashionable and instead be true to ourselves! We were made to be unique, not to follow the crowd.

Sustainable fashion is a journey of intention, and we are here for it. Are you?

The Cattle Yard Launch

The Cattle Yard, West Norfolks Newest Winter Music Venue, opened its doors to the public.

On October 3rd our spectacular launch night filled the venue with guests from all over Norfolk and beyond, hundreds of locals flocked to join us for a night filled with Cocktails & local beers galore from our eclectic house bar. Tempted with the delicious offerings of freshly caught sea food, including the most divine Local Lobster with chips from Randy’s Seafood. Pizza was also on the menu from Fanny Adams, who didn’t disappoint with flavours of Chorizo, goat’s cheese & red onion, and more. Reesey’s had everybody’s sweet tooth covered with waffles, ice creams, pancakes, and deserts like you’ve never tasted.

Positive energy radiated throughout the venue on the night, guests gathered in the courtyard around the fire-pit, enjoying the musical talents from the Two-Bit Operators in the open-sided area of the barn with dancing flowing into the courtyard, while others chilled in our hay barn that we had set out to give the ‘just popped down the local’ kind of vibe.

A thoroughly enjoyable night from start to finish, that lead us onto our next big event The Night ‘Out Out’ Before Christmas, a Market, Music, Feast night for the whole family we held on December 3rd.

With an extensive array of not just your average Christmas market stalls including -

Lucy love heart, All the discos, Made in snetty, Florance nora, Smudge creation, Louisa jones illustration, Vintage Deli, Littlebabybybee, Joyful deisgns by Lauren, Re.creart, Bakes by Megs, Whittlewoodco, Bloom Norfolk, My holly house, Prims Norfolk, Blush & Thistle, Norfolking around creative, Georgina massingham designs, Earthen face, Prims Norfolk, Braydeston knives, Messiah mushrooms, Floral sistas Face painting by Milsky and Papa A’s treasures.

The Dutch barn was filled with some of the most unusual and carefully crafted Christmas gifts and goodies you can imagine. We had many a guest mention how they hadn’t been to a market with such an original selection of items available to buy. Which is exactly how we aim for our vibe to be. Always different, never the same. Offering the best of Norfolk all in one place.

This time we had more food offerings than you can shake a stick at, The cabin norfolk provided guests with Asian inspired taco’s. The Bucket List brought the Christmas vibes with a festive chip bucket and all their classic loaded chips. Fanny adam’s returned with Naughty stuffed Yorkies brimming with roast dinner dreams. And Reesey’s were back with a Cattle yard crumble and custard, and all of their renowned puddings.

We finished the night off with an energetic performance from The Foreign Locals in our cosy Hay barn which got everybody at least tapping their feet if not dancing and singing along to the unique performance on stage.
