Escaping the Everyday in a Norfolk Staycation

Here at Happy Valley, we won’t offer you a version of the ‘new normal’ but will instead open your eyes to life’s simple pleasures, finding your hygge a little closer to home. Here in Norfolk, you can be an intrepid explorer walking in the woods, a serene mermaid, swimming in open streams or the Atlantic sea or how about a cowboy riding off into the sunset. Surrounded by ancient woodland there’s sacred spaces a plenty if you’d rather stay put and recharge your soul. Whatever you choose to do, these natural approaches to your wellbeing have proven healing powers for body, mind, and soul and have existed for centuries. The enriching experience of being present in nature is about slowing down your heartrate, quietening your thoughts and releasing a rush of endorphins.

You can drink in the wild air of the forest, taking a step into the unknown and uncover a world of open skies, endless lanes and wondrous beauty. Our 7 mile rambler’s route is a loop through Hillington - Congham - Grimston and is suitable for anyone looking to explore at their own pace. If walking isn’t for you, allow all your troubles to be washed away and immerse yourself in a wave peace and tranquillity with Norfolk’s wild swimming. Place on a wetsuit for protection, allow your body to acclimatise to the temperature and slowly, at your own pace, begin to swim down stream. There is a local open water swimming group who swim at Leziate, Pentney, Hunstanton and Heacham but for those who prefer to look at the water, rather than dive in, there are long stretches of sand and sea in Norfolk’s infamous beaches. Known for soft sand, clear waters and miles of stunning vista, our coastal hotspots include RSPB Snettisham, Holkham, Brancaster, Wells-Next-The-Sea and Old Hunstanton. Whether it’s the trees’ gentle breeze stroking your cheek or the ebb and flow of the river’s ripples lapping against your face, either walking or swimming, it’s just Mother Nature’s way of welcoming you and saying hello. She’s letting you know that however you choose to dress, whatever way you prefer to show up for her, you have a place by her side, and you’ll always be made to feel right at home.

Blessed to be both a coastal and countryside destination, Norfolk is a haven for those looking for a bit of paradise and plenty of variety. Happy Valley resides on the edge of a 200 acre enchanting and enthralling woodland and a Norfolk Wildlife Trust site. We are surrounded by neighbouring farms, equestrian facilities, alpaca treks and cycling routes. When your feet can no longer carry you, you can gallop off at neighbouring stables in Pott Row or rent bikes from local businesses. For the eccentric in you, why not look to a friendly alpaca for some support or hop into a golf buggy and visit Watatunga’s Wildlife Reserve.

When you strip away the background noise of the voices saying you can’t, when you take away the mirrors that say you shouldn’t, when you shut down the laptop that says you must, all that’s left is you and your own inner happiness.

We’re not part of the ‘new normal’ – we’ve always been here but perhaps this experience has created a ‘new you’ that might like to pay us and Mother Nature a visit some time.

We’ve been given a glimmer of hope for a 2nd December opening as long as rural Norfolk is in the right tier and we can’t wait to welcome you to our little piece of heaven where socially distanced holidays are an easy escape. With a collection of cosy cabins to stimulate your senses there’s something for everyone here in North Norfolk.

Please note - COVID GUARANTEE - Should we be forced to close due to restrictions then you will be offered a full refund or reschedule if you’d prefer.

With love,

Katy, Kirsty and the team at Happy Valley xx
